The CubeVote Discord bot

Your Discord is where the community lives between two play sessions. The bot announces every vote received there, and gives the vote link, the server's status and the voter ranking. Your players see others voting, and vote more often.

Free, with nothing to host. The bot runs at CubeVote: you add it to your Discord, type a code, and you're done. Allow two minutes.

The bot posts its messages in French, the language of the directory's community.

Setup in three steps

You need a server listed on CubeVote, and the right to manage your Discord (the owner and administrators have it).

  1. 1

Add the bot to your Discord

Open your dashboard, pick your server, then the Discord bot section. The “Invite the bot to your Discord” link opens Discord: choose your server in the list and confirm.

The bot only asks for two permissions: Send Messages and Embed Links. No access to your messages, no admin rights.

  2. 2

    Get your link code

Still in the Discord bot section, click “Get my code”. An eight-character code appears, with the ready-made command and a button to copy it.

The code works only once and is valid for thirty minutes. A member of your team can generate it if they have the Management role on CubeVote.

  3. 3

Type /lier in the right channel

Go to the channel where you want vote announcements (a #vote channel, for example) and paste the command:

    /lier AB3DE7FG

The bot confirms the link. That's it: the next vote will show up in this channel, and the dashboard reads “Linked to” followed by your Discord's name.

Settings from the dashboard

  • Announce votes: untick the box to keep the commands without the announcements.
  • Change channel: a new code, then /lier in the new channel.
  • Detach: the bot immediately stops talking about your server. Then remove it from Discord if you wish (Server Settings → Integrations).

Without the bot: the Discord webhook

Don't want to add a bot? Paste the address of a Discord webhook (Channel Settings → Integrations → Webhooks) into your server's page (“Discord webhook” field): every vote will be announced there the same way, without commands. The same webhook is also used for alerts when your server goes down.

Frequently asked questions

The commands don't show up when I type “/”

Discord sometimes takes a few minutes to show them after the bot is added. If nothing appears, check in Server Settings → Integrations → CubeVote that the commands are allowed in this channel, then restart Discord (Ctrl + R on desktop).

“This code is unknown or has expired”

A code is valid for thirty minutes and works only once. Generate a new one from the Discord bot section of your dashboard, then type /lier again with the new code (upper or lower case, it doesn't matter).

“Only members who can manage this Discord server…”

The /lier command is reserved for members with the “Manage Server” permission on Discord (the Discord's owner and administrators have it). Without this rule, any member could have another server's votes announced in your Discord.

The bot is linked but announces no votes

Check that the “Announce votes” box is ticked in your dashboard, that the channel is a regular text channel (announcement channels and forums aren't supported) and that the bot is allowed to “Send Messages” and “Embed Links” there. An announcement arrives within fifteen seconds of the vote.

How do I change the announcement channel?

Generate a new code in your dashboard and type /lier in the new channel: it replaces the old one. To stop everything, use “Detach” in the dashboard, then remove the bot from your Discord if you wish.

Does the bot read our messages?

No. It asks for neither message content access nor any admin permission: only sending messages and embedding links. It only sees the commands addressed to it, and only shows information that's already public on your CubeVote listing.

Several Minecraft servers in the same Discord?

Each server can announce its votes in this Discord, each with its own code. The /vote, /statut and /classement commands, however, answer for the first server linked.
